Founded in 1977, the Council Against Domestic Assault, now known as EVE, Inc., was Lansing’s first domestic violence shelter. EVE’s House provides free residential and non-residential supportive
services to victims of domestic violence within Ingham County. EVE
offers 24-hour crisis line support, safe, temporary emergency shelter,
family and individual counseling, advocacy, support groups, children’s
programs, community education and personal protection order assistance.
EVE Inc. works in partnership with the Capital Area Response Effort (CARE), the Ingham County Prosecutor’s Office. Legal Services, all local law enforcement agencies, Capital Area Prevention Services, MSU School of Social Work, MSU College of Nursing, MSU Department of Psychology and Sparrow Hospital. In 2004, EVE’s provided shelter, counseling, childcare and individualized programs to more than 1,000 children in Ingham County. EVE’s House offers a 24-hour crisis line (517) 372-5572, staffed by trained individuals to provide support, information and referrals. Programs are client centered, confidential and free. They are designed to promote the empowerment of women survivors by assisting them with housing, legal issues, parenting, job skills, health and safety issues. EVE’s services are dependent upon the help of volunteers, services and the support of area businesses and organizations. EVE, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. Donations are tax deductible for both federal tax savings and the Michigan Homeless Shelter/Food Bank Credit.
